Terms
SessionHUD is software from Fontaine Creative LLC. It is not an Avid product. These terms cover the license you buy and how this site may be used.
The license
SessionHUD is sold three ways, priced per Mac, with every feature in each: a monthly subscription, an annual subscription and a perpetual license. Prices are in US dollars before tax; tax is added at checkout, and checkout may show the price converted into your currency.
- Either way, a license is activated with a serial number, one Mac per activation, and bound to the email used at checkout. There is no password: your account page opens from a link we email you. Moving to a new Mac is self-serve and free, with no limit on how often: release the old one in SessionHUD (License… ▸ Release This Mac) and activate the new one. A lost or stolen Mac is revoked on your account page, once in any 12 months; further revocations within that time go through support.
- Buying from the website always issues a new serial on your account. To add Macs to a serial you already have, use that license’s own buttons on your account page: Add Macs on a perpetual license, or Manage billing or Subscribe again on a subscription. A subscription and a perpetual license are always separate serials.
- Activation sends us the serial, a one-way hash of that Mac’s hardware identifier, and the name the Mac calls itself. That is how an activation is counted and how your account page names the Mac rather than showing you a row of hex. Privacy lists every request the app makes, what each one carries, and how long we keep it.
- If you revoke a lost or stolen Mac, or replace your serial from the account page, we issue a new serial and email it to you, and the old one stops activating. Macs already activated keep working.
- You may not redistribute the signed app, your serial number, or a modified or cracked copy.
The subscriptions
- Monthly: $8 a month per Mac.
- Annual: $49 a year per Mac. The launch price is $39 a year per Mac, for a subscription started by the last launch day published on the pricing page, or within 14 days of an evaluation begun by that day. A subscription started at the launch price keeps it through every renewal and every change in the number of Macs, for as long as that subscription stays active.
- It renews automatically every month or every year, on the date you started it, charging the payment method you gave at checkout, until you cancel. A receipt arrives for each renewal.
- Cancel whenever you like, with the Cancel button beside the subscription on your account page or at link.com. Cancelling stops the next renewal; the subscription and its Macs keep working until the end of the month or year already paid for, and the rest of it is not refunded, except as described under Refunds.
- Switch between monthly and annual under Manage billing on your account page. A switch to annual is charged straight away, less the unused part of the month, and renews a year from that day; during the launch window it is at the launch price. A switch to monthly starts when the year already paid for ends. A subscription at the launch price keeps it and is not switched; to change it, cancel and subscribe again.
- The number of Macs is changed under Manage billing on your account page. You are shown what a change costs and when it takes effect before you confirm it. If a subscription covers fewer Macs than are activated, the extra Macs stop within 30 days (at their next check-in if online); the account page shows which, and lets you choose which Macs keep running.
- Offline, a subscribed Mac keeps working for up to 30 days after it last checked in, and never past the end of the month or year paid for — except for up to 8 days beyond it while a renewal is still being charged.
- When a subscription ends — cancelled, or a renewal payment that fails and is not put right — its Macs stop working at their next check-in if online, and otherwise when their offline time above runs out: SessionHUD stops running its outputs, and an active recording is allowed to finish. Nothing on the Mac is altered or deleted, and subscribing again from your account page, while signed in, brings back the same serial.
- A subscription includes every version of SessionHUD released while it is active.
The perpetual license
- $129 per Mac, once. The launch price is $99 per Mac, on the same dates as the annual launch price. Nothing about it renews.
- More Macs cost what a perpetual license costs on the day you buy them: $99 each at the launch price, $129 after. Buy them as a larger quantity at checkout, or later from your account page; each one permanently raises that license’s activation limit by one.
- It covers SessionHUD 1: continued use of version 1 and every 1.x update we release. It does not include a later major version, and it does not promise that version 1 will keep working with every future version of macOS or Pro Tools. A perpetual license that does not name a version is a 1.x license, and it does not expire: a 1.x release you have stays licensed for good.
Before a serial number is entered SessionHUD runs a 14-day evaluation: the take number, timecode and the built-in presets on every output, including the browser viewer and the virtual camera, with no registration and nothing to pay. The evaluation is a signed license we issue on first launch, in exchange for a one-way hash of the Mac; it starts the first time the app runs on that Mac and cannot be restarted on it. When the fourteen days end the app stops running its outputs until a serial is entered — nothing on your Mac is altered or deleted. A license keeps those outputs running and unlocks the layout designer and facility branding. A perpetual license does not expire; a subscription lasts as long as it is paid. The evaluation is not a license and grants no right to the paid capabilities.
Who sells it to you
SessionHUD is sold through Stripe’s Managed Payments, with Link (link.com, Stripe’s payment service) as merchant of record. Link is the seller on every transaction, each subscription renewal included: it charges you, issues the receipts and renewal notices, and is responsible for sales tax, VAT and GST wherever they apply. Your card statement names Link, not SessionHUD. Fontaine Creative LLC makes the software and licenses it to you under these terms; it does not collect tax from you and is not the party on your card statement.
Two consequences worth stating plainly. Link may issue a refund directly under its own policies, without asking us first. Where local law gives you a cooling-off or withdrawal right on a digital purchase or a subscription, Link applies it.
Refunds
If SessionHUD does not do what this site says it does, you can have your money back. Write to support@sessionhud.com within 30 days of the purchase and we will ask Link to refund it. That covers every purchase except a renewal: a perpetual license, each Mac added to one later, and the first month or year of a subscription. We would rather refund you than argue about it.
Renewals are not refunded by us: cancel before the renewal date to avoid the next one. Link may still refund a renewal under its own policy, or where the law where you live requires it.
A refund ends your right to use what it refunded and revokes future activations and renewals for it. Each Mac holds a renewable authorization. On a subscription it is valid offline for up to 30 days, and not past the period paid for except while a renewal is being charged; on a perpetual license it does not expire for want of a connection, and the Mac checks in when it can. Revocation takes effect at the Mac’s next successful check, or for a subscription when its authorization expires; an active recording is allowed to finish.
What the software does and does not do
SessionHUD reads what a session is doing from Pro Tools, over the connection Pro Tools already offers to other apps on the same Mac, and from the audio files Pro Tools creates. It does not write a session, an audio file, or a Pro Tools preference. If that promise is ever broken, that is a bug, not a feature.
It cannot run Pro Tools for you, recover a lost session, or certify a delivery. SessionHUD shows a dash rather than a number it does not know, and Diagnostics says when a number is a best guess. You remain responsible for what you record.
This website
These pages are provided as-is, for information. Product details change between releases; the version you buy is described by the release notes for that version, and a preview URL is not a published product announcement.
Trademarks
Pro Tools is a trademark of Avid Technology, Inc. SessionHUD and the SessionHUD mark are used by Fontaine Creative LLC. Nothing here grants a license to those marks, and nothing here says Avid endorses, certifies or supports SessionHUD.
Warranty and liability
The software is provided as-is. Fontaine Creative LLC is not liable for lost takes, lost sessions, downtime, or consequential damage. Some places do not allow that limitation; there, it applies to the extent the law allows.
Indemnification
What you do with what SessionHUD shows you is yours. If someone brings a claim against Fontaine Creative LLC arising out of how you used the app — what you put on a client’s screen, what you told a room a take number was, what you delivered — you cover the cost of defending and resolving it. That does not extend to a claim that SessionHUD itself infringes someone’s rights, and it does not extend to a claim to the extent our own negligence or willful misconduct caused it.
Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of New Jersey, without regard to its conflict-of-laws principles. Fontaine Creative LLC is a New Jersey company, and the state and federal courts of New Jersey are the venue for any dispute under these terms. Where the law where you live gives you rights this cannot waive, it does not try to.
Changes
If these terms change in a way that affects a paid license or a subscription, we will say so at the email on that license, and a change to a subscription applies from its next renewal, not to a month or year already paid for. Using the site after a change on this page is acceptance for the site. Using a paid build is acceptance of the license that accompanied that build.
Effective 20 October 2026.
